Are they afraid to get dirty or to get dark?

Cuz of their tradition
because there are no black gloves?
Uh, because they feel like it?
Maybe white clothes are fashionable in Korea.
wtf, i’m korean and i’ve never seen it
its because in korea, for women to have dark skin is ugly. they want a white skin color, so they wear white gloves. it actually helps because there arent that much dark women in korea. they have white skin.heehee
I think the most appropriate answer here is that they are sun-conscious and do not want to get skin cancer etc. Hands are very much prone to sun-spots and cancers because we forget to put sunscreen on them.
If you ask me, they are pretty smart to protect themselves.
its sexy
If they’re afraid to get dark, they might as well just cover their whole body with clothing.
More likely, they want to be clean.
Well, when gardening it’s obviously not to get dirty… although the gloves aren’t always necessarily white.
In other activities, women wear them to protect their hands from the sun. As others have said, pale skin is highly valued in Korean culture. Women take care to apply at least SPF50 on their face and body, and it’s not unusual to see girls in long-sleeves, pants, and hats in the super-humid, super-hot summertime. (Yes, it’s even worse than the humid summers in the midwestern USA, because of the crowding and the pollution. You can tell who’s American because they’re sweating like crazy even though they’re wearing as little clothing as possible and flip-flops haha.) But long-sleeves don’t cover your hands, so thus the gloves.
I believe the best answer is they are afraid to get dark, I’ve seen similar situations in Taiwan and Japan. Especially when a women is driving a car. I’ve never seen a women wearing one while walking, maybe thats a style thing for them.
It’s kind of like a koreans, chinese & japanese thing. My mom and aunts wear long gloves while driving to protect themselves from getting dark. Well, my mom doesn’t do gardening so i am not sure of that, but most people do that because they want to prevent getting dark or as a protection over skin cancer.
