Depends on whether or not you want shrubs or herbaceous plants.
Most plants will do well on a west facing slope. Your main considerations may well be more to do with the amount of wind you get across the slope.
If it is windy then pick some evergreen low growing shrubs or some of the lower height herbaceous plants if you'd rather have flowers.
Shrubs like Hebes are usually a good bet for year round interest as are Cistus (rock rose – great plant on a slope) or dwarf pittasporum. Cornus are also a good choice for year round interest with their colourful stems.
Herbaceous plants could include Heucheras, Tiarellas, Stachys or lamiums as they are low growers. You can grow taller herbaceous plants but you'll want to bear in mind their height. Tall plants at the bottom will make the slope look shorter, whereas tall plants at the top will make it look longer.
Think about what effect you want in this respect and then try some plants that you like the look of. Why not mix shrubs with some herbaceous plants and bulbs.
Have a good look through a plant encyclopedia and get some ideas and inspiration and then draw up a plan and try some out.
