So Sweet~ Those babies couldn’t have been more than a few days old. : )
“Mom” 1929-February 2010 This is my father’s favorite photo of my mother, taken in 1965, with her Head Standard skis My mother, the 5th Beetle Mother Nature By Amy Chavez If there was a Goddess of animals, it was my mother. She had such a reputation for helping animals in despair, people were constantly bringing her homeless cats, injured birds, rejected baby raccoons–all sorts of needy animals. She took them into her country house and nursed them back to health. One morning when Mom went to get the mail, she found a dog tied to the mailbox with a note that said, “Please take care of me.” Of course she took him in. Mom treated all animals like this. In the winter, when the field mice got tired of the cold, they moved inside. Naturally, the mice chose a warm, provisionally abundant place to live in: the kitchen. They found the cabinets most pleasant. As all country house dwellers know, you must curb the mice problem before it gets out of hand. The kitchen mice spread the word to all…
"But I don’t think I wanna see a little…baby half-vampire in 3-D,”
“a GOP gift from GOD” – I didn’t know Republicans loved him that much! But I’m glad they do. Unless you’re being ironic, and believe that one of your piss-poor candidates will beat him in 2012. Please, PLEASE nominate Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich! Please God, I beg of you nominated one of them. I might switch parties, JUST to vote in a GOP primary for Sarah Palin.
Leave the cubs alone. Most likely the sow (female) is hiding nearby and will come to take care of them. If she finds you messing with them she can get rather mean and raccoons do have teeth. Besides, raccoons are carriers of rabies and if you ever do have to mess with one wear gloves to protect yourself. Do watch them though, from far away, and if she doesn't come back call animal control. Baby animals are often "rescued" unnecessarily.
PS: Another thing……..tell your cousins to quit poking things with a stick. How would you like if a giant stick came out of the sky at night and poked you to see if you were still living???
find out if there is a coon birthing season and then get a coon hound and hunt yourself a mama/baby coon duo
"bree, why aren't you wearing pants?" "raccoons came and stole them in my sleep."
Did you get to touch it? Is it leathery like it looks? Like a mushroom or puffball?
Keep food out of reach and they should move on. They ARE NOT AGGRESSIVE but if they feel threatened they will be DEFENSIVE. I have had a skunk move in under my back porch for the last five years. She freeloads on my cat food for about four weeks while she has her babies and then she moves them out to the woods. I have startled her several times and she looks at me and waddles back under the porch. She has never sprayed me and I have never tried to get closer to her than she has chosen.
